Purging Those Files in My Home

It’s Tuesday evening, June 26 2018, and I had to take a break from purging my home.  I’m trying to prepare my house for sale and it is a ton of work.  I have collected so much “stuff” that I don’t even know which way to turn.  I have a lot of home accessories that I’ve bought over the years and now I’m trying to dwindle it all down to clear my head if nothing else.  

Today was a quiet day here in my living room.  I’m kind of taking things slowly as I prepare to throw things out that no longer serve me and as I get ready for the Fall and Winter seasons which for me means, holiday time and great sales for my body butter and gift box business, I am excited.  I am already placing orders for my new beauty jars and tins so I am thrilled to see what they are going to look like when they arrive. 

My Living Room Window

I called several places and I hit the jackpot when the nice lady on the phone at SKS told me that I could order up to three jars free of charge, which includes free shipping also, I jumped at the opportunity to grab these three sample jars.  If they look anything as she described I will be ordering them as soon as they arrive. There’s really nothing like working for yourself doing what you love.  I think when you’re doing the things you love it makes working your home based business a breeze.

I’m also shopping for new furniture for our new home.  I already purchased Thanksgiving dinnerware for this year and I have my theme in place for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I love to plan early as I guess you can tell.  I even start buying my spices and all in September just so that I am fully ready when the time comes.  I never wait for the last minute to do anything.  I never have.  

Well, I’m headed back into the bedroom where my mother once resided.  It was hard for me to enter into that room for the longest time after she died in there.  I was her caregiver for seventeen years and out of those 17 years she was bed-bound for 5 1/2 of that time.  It breaks my heart when I think about her, but I know I have to keep pushing forward no matter how difficult.  It was September 15, 2017 when she passed away and I’m trying to get better.  I try to think about the moments we shared with her telling me her childhood stories and the memories that were in her heart.  If I dwell on those things I am okay.

Okay, I’m off to finish working now.  It’s 6:46 pm here in good old Pennsylvania.  The place I call home.  I love it here and I love taking time to share my living room stories with you.  I hope they resonate with you in some way.

Yes, making something does take an initial cost in supplies, but oftentimes, these products can be sold for many times over their actual cost. What you decide to make is up to you, but there are several places you can sell your handmade options online:

Abe’s Market deals in natural and organic goods, such as lotions, candles, granola, and more.
Etsy is one of the largest online markets for almost anything homemade, from jewelry to wooden toys for kids.

Bonanza is another growing handmade marketplace, similar to Etsy. According to PC World, it boasts over 10 million visits per month.

eBay is one of the biggest online ecommerce marketplaces in the world, and its streamlined store options, easy checkout through Paypal, and customizable listing options make it a great choice for selling items.

Many business owners sell their products on multiple platforms to get the most exposure possible. It is important, however, to make sure your inventory stays updated on all sites you have a storefront on. 2. Resell something.

If you don’t want to make anything (or you don’t consider yourself a creative person), many business owners have grown large businesses just be reselling products that have already been made. This can be done through a variety of ways or channels:

Drop shipping: Set up an online store and partner with drop-shipping companies that will do all the order fulfillment for you. Online ecommerce platform Shopify has a great drop shipping guide, and Tim Ferriss does a good job of explaining drop shipping in his well-known book, The

Thrift stores and garage sales: If you know where to look, you can find items at thrift stores, antique shops, flea markets and garage sales and resell them online or in your local community for more than you purchased them for. One extremely successful example of this is Sophia Amoruso, the founder of Nasty Gal. Amoruso started buying and reselling vintage and unique fashion pieces on eBay, and her company has grown to a net income of $24 million in 2011 with over 200 employees. 3. Sell your services.

One way to start a business with little to no startup capital is to sell your services, instead of a physical product. There’s a huge variety of services you can offer, depending on your background and interests.

Some will require advanced degrees, such as accounting, while others require little more than a working knowledge of how it’s done (such as babysitting, lawn mowing or personal assistance).

Because you are selling your services, you will need a branding plan to make sure your name and company gets in front of the people who may need the service. Some places that are free for promoting your services include Fiverr, Craigslist, Elance, Taskrabbit and Skillshare.

4. Barter to get what you need.

Unfortunately, it’s extremely hard to start a business without any type of funds at all. For instance, if you find yourself in need of a used laptop, try to barter for it. Build a new website for a used electronics supplier, or offer babysitting services to your neighbor for their old Macbook.

5. Utilize low-cost services.

As mentioned previously, you can use sites such as Fiverr or Elance to advertise your products and services on, but you can also use these platforms to build up your own company. For instance, many designers offer $5 to $25 logo designs (that come with free revisions). Sort by reviews and look at past examples to find a designer or service provider that matches your style.

This is a great way to get branding materials, printed items (Vistaprint and Zazzle are great places to buy personalized items), or other needed items without much cost. Thinking In The Living Room

Loving All That I Have To Do

Hello Moms! Today started out gloriously and now I am sitting here thinking in the living room after a very busy morning. I am thinking about my to-do-list which is really small, but there are some major projects that I must complete before this week ends.

I made breakfast for my mother and then I began cutting up my green peppers for my spaghetti sauce.  Penne pasta is on the menu for dinner tonight.  Pasta is my husband’s favorite foods.  When I make Penne pasta he likes it when I sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top.  I put it in the oven for about 15 minutes to make sure that the cheese melts perfectly and along with a veggie or fresh green leaf salad and garlic bread, the meal is absolutely positively delicious and ready to be served!  I can’t wait myself. 

Second Things Second

Now I am sitting at the desk in my office and updating all of my blogs as my spaghetti sauce slowly cooks and simmers.

I have so much I need to post and I am always excited to share my own new ideas with you.  It seems I never ever stop coming up with new and fresh ideas and I think it’s because I believe in what I do and I simply love what I do.  My passion goes beyond measure and that is how I am able to stay outside of the box with more and new things not just for my business, but for you too.

Hello Stay-at-Home Moms,

I hope all is well with all of you.  

I’ve been sick for the past month with the flu and then a really bad viral infection, but now I’m back in business.  I don’t think I have ever been so sick in all of my life, but I am starting to feel much better now.  I thank God because I didn’t think I was ever going to recover from that awful infection that found its way into my body invading my space!

During the time that I was sick I was thinking of Moms in Slippers and all the things I plan to share with you to help you with your work-at-home business so that you can enjoy optimal success in whatever it is you are trying to achieve.

Enjoy All the Benefits of Working for Yourself

At the tender sweet young ages of 19, 24, 29 and 31, my precious four darling pearls realize the benefits of being their own bosses.

Voicing their concerns to me, they often ask who came up with the idea of working all day long for someone else, making them a fortune, with someone else telling you what to do, telling you what you’re worth based on your skills, paying you what you’re worth based on that skill and paying you just enough money to get by every two weeks and not giving you the opportunity to utilize your gifts and talents. My kids possess the most awesome abilities and amazing skill sets to not only get the job done professionally and in a timely manner, but they can help to make the office setting a better place to work.  These tools they have been given are highly unique and their gifts are priceless.  Whenever I hear them say these things about working for someone else it is then that I begin to write a book.

Benefits of working, not just at home, but for yourself are endless.  For me, it’s not about the money because when you’re doing what you absolutely positively love, the money comes and it comes in an abundance, truly overflowing.  Another benefit of being your own boss is being able to incorporate your own ideas into your business to keep it thriving.  My oldest daughter is the founder and owner of  The Bewitched American.  She decided to use all the gifts she’s been blessed to receive and start her own business and it proved to be one of the most intelligent decisions in, of and for her life.

I truly believe that being able to use a gift, a skill or a talent is important because it gives us a real sense of peace.  When you work for someone else, there are times when you become stressed or maybe even overwhelmed by pressing deadlines or friction in the workplace which can all be so very unhealthy.  My children didn’t want to do this to themselves so they decided to venture out just like their mom and they are enjoying and loving working for themselves.
